Editorial standards and corrections

By Rent to Own Guide · Published · How we research

Sources

  • Legal and program claims cite primary sources: statutes on official legislature sites, federal and state agencies, and the programs themselves. Where we could only read a secondary copy (for example, a statute mirror), the source list says so.
  • Every source shows the publisher's date where one exists and the date we last checked it.
  • Numbers carry their geography and time period. Census figures name the dataset, table, and the place (city or metro) they describe.
  • If we can't source a claim, we narrow it or leave it out. We don't publish “typical” figures without data behind them.

What we won't publish

  • Invented authors, reviewers, credentials, testimonials, ratings, or statistics about our users.
  • Homes presented as available unless the owner has confirmed it and we have permission to show the listing.
  • Promises about approvals, credit-score changes, timelines, or savings.

How guides are produced

Guides are researched and drafted with the help of software tools, including AI, and checked against the cited sources before publication. They're published under the Rent to Own Guide name. No guide has been reviewed by an attorney or other licensed professional unless the page says so.

Local pages

A state or city guide is published only after we've researched its law, public records tools, and assistance programs. Locations we haven't researched are labeled as reference pages and aren't submitted to search engines.

Dates

“Published” is when a page first went live; “Updated” is the last significant content change. We don't change dates for cosmetic edits.

Corrections

Found an error or an out-of-date program? Email hello@renttoownguide.com with “Correction” in the subject and the page link. Significant corrections are noted on the page with the date of the fix.

Money and independence
